Why Mushrooms?

Mushroom growing an ecologically sound sustainable farming system that involve the recycling of agricultural wastes and little modern technology does not require much land.

Further, in India, the annual production of straw and cereal stalks is estimated to be around 242 million tonnes, part of it is utilised as fooder and if the remainig is burnt it leads to air pollution as well as waste of organic material.

These agro residues contain cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin of which lignin is highly resistant to microbial activity.

How ever a large number of bnasidiomycetous fungi are able to function as primary decomposers and edible mushrooms belong to this unique group.
